Portraits
IN THE BEGINNING
...only the empty surface exists.
Line, mass, shape, and volume create a new creation,
an idea comes to life, a portrait is formed.
Creating something alive on a surface requires knowledge of
drawing techniques, pictorial space, composition, and anatomy.
These are traditional components of the classic figurative method
that is the foundation of my artworks.
DIALOG
The drawing discipline is a time-consuming and meticulous task.
The slow process requires patience and precision.
A larger work with pencil and charcoal becomes a meditation,
a quiet dialogue between the piece of art and the artist
as the artwork gradually comes forth.
As an artist, Maike Sjåfjell uses classic techniques as a foundation to create high-quality art
in the form of drawings.
