Portraits

IN THE BEGINNING
…only the empty surface exists.
Line, mass, shape, and volume give rise to a new creation:
an idea comes to life, a portrait is formed.

To create something that feels alive on a surface requires an understanding of drawing techniques, pictorial space, composition, and anatomy. These are the traditional elements of the classical figurative method that form the foundation of my work.

DIALOG
Drawing is a time-consuming and meticulous discipline.
Its slow process demands patience and precision.

A large-scale work in pencil and charcoal becomes a form of meditation—
a quiet dialogue between the artwork and the artist—
as the artwork gradually emerges.

As an artist, Maike Sjåfjell uses classic techniques as a foundation to create high-quality art
in the form of drawings.
